✨Elijah and Paul: two perspectives, one truth

📖 Key text

1 Kings 19:18

"And I will leave in Israel seven thousand, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him."

Elijah, in the midst of his crisis, thought he was alone:

1 Kings 19:10

"I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant... and I alone am left, and they seek to take my life."

But God revealed to him that there were stillseven thousand faithfulwho had not bowed their knees to Baal (1 Kings 19:18).

Centuries later, Paul writes to the Romans and dedicates an entire chapter to recognizing the invisible servants who supported the work:

Romans 16:1–7mentions Phoebe, Priscilla, Aquila, Epenetus, Mary, Andronicus, and Junia. Each one, from their own context, served with faithfulness and passion.

🌱 Areas of service and their impact

  • Phoebe (vv.1–2):deaconess of Cenchrea, logistical and spiritual support. Her name means"bright, pure".
  • Priscilla and Aquila (vv.3–4):a couple who taught, discipled, and risked their lives. Priscilla means"ancient, venerable"; Aquila,"eagle".
  • Epenetus (v.5):first fruit of Achaia, pioneer in the faith. His name means"praised".
  • Mary (v.6):tireless worker, a symbol of silent service.Miryammeans“beloved of God”.
  • Andronicus and Junia (v.7):prison companions, esteemed among the apostles. Andronicus means“victorious man”; Junia,“youth”.

👉 These lives remind us that the Kingdom advances thanks to those who pray, disciple, support, work, and persevere, even if they are not visible in pulpits or public squares.

📜 Paul's complete greeting

Although here we have highlighted the first seven names, Paul continues to mention many more brothers and sisters in Romans 16:8–16, showing that God's work is sustained by a great network of faithful collaborators. This extensive list is a testimony that the Kingdom expands through multiple invisible ministries.

🌱 Conclusion

Elijah thought he was alone, but God showed him that He had preserved a remnant. Paul recognized that the Kingdom continued to grow because God, in His grace, had reserved chosen servants.

Romans 11:5

“So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.”

The work does not depend on our strength, but on the God who sustains His eternal plan through His church.

🙏 Final prayer

"Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have thought that I am the only one serving in your work. Thank you because You Yourself sustain your Kingdom through a remnant chosen by grace. Thank you for every brother and sister who, from different backgrounds, serve you with faith, passion, and dedication: those who pray in silence, those who share your Word, those who support faithfully, those who disciple in their homes, those who work tirelessly, and those who persevere even in persecution. Help me to value and encourage those invisible ministries, and to be part of them with humility and gratitude. Amen."
